Moab, Utah Visitors Guide

Named for a city from the Bible, Moab was officially settled in 1880. It is located along the Colorado River near the base of the La Sal Mountains. During the years after WWII the town was known for its uranium; today it is a popular movie making location and tourist area.

  • Canyonlands Field Institute- Offering family oriented classes and trips that focus on geology, natural and cultural history, endangered species and Southwestern literature. Many of the classes are held in the Canyonlands or Arches National Parks.
  • Dan O’Laurie Canyon Country Museum- For more learning on the local history, archeology, uranium and minerals spend some time here.
  • Home in the Rock- A 5,000 square foot home carved into a large sandstone rock.
  • Arches National Park is located just 5 miles outside of Moab.
  • Canyonlands National Park is 32 miles from Moab.
